Giving Tuesday 2020

November 30, 2020 by admin

GivingTuesday is a global generosity movement unleashing the power of people and organizations to transform their communities and the world.

GivingTuesday was created in 2012 as a simple idea: a day that encourages people to do good. GivingTuesday was born and incubated at the 92nd Street Y and its Belfer Center for Innovation & Social Impact in New York City. GivingTuesday is now an independent nonprofit and a global movement that inspires hundreds of millions of people to give, collaborate, and celebrate generosity.

Whether it’s making someone smile, helping a neighbor or stranger out, showing up for an issue or people we care about, or giving some of what we have to those who need our help, every act of generosity counts, and everyone has something to give.

Manna is on track serve over 43,500 meals this year, which we are able to accomplish because of our donor’s support during our fundraising campaigns like #GivingTuesday. We are dedicated to continuing our battle against local food insecurity, one lovingly crafted meal at a time. Can we count on your support this Giving Tuesday?

Ways to Donate

Is my donation tax deductable?

Yes, Manna Soup Kitchen Inc. 48 Elm St., Northampton MA is a 501(c)3 tax-exempt organization and your donation is tax-deductible within the guidelines of U.S. law. EIN# is 33-1064237

Can I use Bank Transfers?

Use your bank’s “Bill Pay” feature to designate Manna as the payee and schedule a one-time or recurring transfer of funds for a certain amount. Your bank actually sends us a check by mail and we then process it just like any other check we receive during the week.

Can I give Stock?

Charitable contributions of stocks, bonds, and other appreciated securities may provide you a maximum tax benefit. Typically deductible at the market value on the date gifted, your contribution of securities allows you to avoid capital gains tax on any appreciation.

Can I use my Life Insurance policy as a vehicle to give?

Life insurance is a great vehicle to use in making a planned gift. Naming Manna as a beneficiary assures that an intended amount (or percentage) of money will go to Manna. As long as the premium is paid up, the face amount will be paid. Insurance can be beneficial to donors with large estates (and trusts) who wish to protect their assets for family and charity.

How can I use my Retirement Plan to give?

Your retirement assets, accumulated over many years and invested in tax-deferred accounts, could ultimately be a large portion of your estate. You may wish to explore the benefit of designating Manna as a primary or secondary (after your spouse) beneficiary on your retirement plans.

Employer Matching Gifts

Many public and private companies match their employees’ contributions to non-profits. Checking with your employer could double or even triple the value of your gift to us.

Bequests

In addition to being the most common form of planned giving, a bequest to Manna helps to insure our future without affecting your current personal finances. Donors have many options in determining how to leave a bequest to provide for maximum estate tax charitable deductions and benefit to Manna. Bequests to Manna Can Take Several Forms: an outright monetary bequest a percentage of an estate a specific asset, such as personal or real property a trust created in a will a contingent beneficiary, i.e., Manna receives the assets if there are no surviving beneficiaries

Update: Manna Community Kitchen’s response to COVID-19

March 20, 2020 by admin

3/20/2020, Updated 6/8/2022

To our Manna & Greater Northampton Community,

In the wake of Gov. Baker’s restrictions on restaurants and group gatherings, we have decided to make a transition to serving our meals as to-gos. We will still be here, 6 days a week, with fresh, hot, and nutritious meals, but we will now be handing them out at our door for you to take with you. We have purchased a tent and erected it on the front lawn of St. John’s Episcopal Church for those who wish to dine safely outdoors in community.

During this immensely challenging time, we are prepared to help. If you or anyone you know are in need of meals, please feel no hesitation in utilizing our services. We are here for everyone in our community.

Our hours and locations:

Monday: 11:30 – 12:30pm at St. John’s Episcopal Church
Tuesday: 11:30 – 12:30pm at St. John’s Episcopal Church
Wednesday: 6:00 – 7:00pm at St. John’s Episcopal Church
Thursday: 11:30 – 12:30pm at St. John’s Episcopal Church

Friday: 11:30 – 12:30pm at Edwards Church
Saturday: 11:30 – 12:30pm at Edwards Church

Please reach out to us if these are outside of your availability, as we’d like to make arrangements to assist you in whatever way we can. We have the ability to prepare a number of meals to be picked up at different times and have worked with people in the community to offer free home delivery services.

If you have any questions about how we can help you get through this, please call us at (413) 887-0500, send an email to one of us Kaitlyn@mannanorthampton.org, lee@mannanorthampton.org or message us on Facebook @mannanorthampton, we are here for you.

If you’d like to support us in our mission to serve those in our community who face hunger and food insecurity, a financial donation allows us to continue purchasing fresh food and other necessities to keep our meals going out our door and into the hands of the people that need them.

We will get through this together by being vigilant and mindful of the needs, health, and well-being of everyone.

Be well,

Manna Community Kitchen
